Dudhsagar Falls, the Natural Falling Beauty

Dudhsagar Falls Dudhsagar Falls are considered as the most impressive waterfalls in Goa. The Dudhsagar Falls are situated in the eastern border of Goa and Karnataka, 60 Km from Margoa, which lies in the Sanguem Taluka of South Goa. Dudhsagar Fall also shares its space just near to two National Parks Bhagwan Mahavir National Park and Dandeli National Park.
Dudhsagar Falls are located in Ponda Village of Goa, and is listed as India’s 5th tallest fall, 227th in the world. It is also a major part of Goas Ecosystem.

The Dudhsagar falls measures a grand 600 meters from head to foot falling at a height of about 2000 feet down the cliff into the forests of the Western Ghats. The Konkani name for the falls, which literally translated means "sea of milk", derives from clouds of milky foam which rises up at the bottom of the falls. These magnificent falls are located in a blissful tropical jungle with crisscrossing streams, making it an ideal destination for travel vacation in Goa.

The falls drop down to form a few pools, which are absolutely delightful for a swim. The fall is generally calm during summers. Monsoon is the beat season to experience the full glory of the falls and this natural beauty becomes alive and attracts tourists mostly during monsoon season. The place is also popular as a hiking destination. The wooded land offers ample opportunities for trekking. In fact, one of the famous trek routes in Goa leads to the Dudhsagar Falls. Some of the other activities which one can do around the Dudhsagar Falls are climbing, waterfall cascading and shooting.

Dudhsagar falls are in the forests of Western Ghats. The falls can be reached by a train from Margoa. The train takes around 2 hours. Alternatively, taxis and buses can be hired. Motorcycles are not recommended as the way to falls has many rivers and canals, which often overflow. Reaching Margoa is easier, as Margoa is connected by direct trains to the nearby states. The Dambolin Airport in Vasco-da-Gama is 5 Km from Margoa. There are not many options near Dudhsagar falls. There is a Forest rest-house, owned by KTDC, near the falls. Else visitors can stay at Margoa and plan a one day trip to Dudhsagar Falls.
