Tiracol Fort – Goa Heritage Site

Tiracol Fort Goa Wish to get a birds-eye view of Goa? Want to visit some place in Goa that is completely out of this world & undisturbed by the city life? Then the Tiracol Fort standing guard on the bank of the Terekhol River is just the place you are looking for.
Built way back in the 16th century by the king of Sawanwadi, the Tiracol Fort was for long a key Portuguese fort meant to serve as a guard to Goa. Renowned as being one of the most scenic historic monuments of Goa, the Tiracol Fort today has very little to guard owing to its peaceful & tranquil surroundings.

Location: The grand 16th century Tiracol Fort is located on the north side bank of river Terekhol, on the coast of Arabian Sea overlooking the very beautiful Keri Beach. An architectural spectacle, this heritage fort lies north of Arambol, at a distance of about 42 km from Panjim.

Tiracol Fort Attractions: Once a key armed fortress of the Portuguese, Tiracol Fort today stands as Goa’s one of the very few idyllically peaceful spots. Housed in the courtyard of the fort is the century old St. Anthony Church. This elegant looking church has a classical Goan façade & remains locked except for special occasions. A narrow stone staircase leads up from the courtyard to split level rooms offering breathtaking views of the Terekhol River. Enhancing the beauty of this fort is the long unspoiled stretch of Casuarina lined Keri Beach.

Fort Tiracol Heritage Hotel: Owing to the tranquil serenity of Fort Tiracol, it has now been converted into a heritage hotel. The priceless ocean-view & the unmatched architectural magnificence that this fort exhibits, attracts many tourists from far & wide. Each of the massive rooms housed in this hotel is equipped with the most modern amenities.

How to Reach? For reaching the fort, you can hire a taxi from Panjim bus stand that takes you to Keri, following which you can get aboard a ferry to Tiracol. A ferry is available from 6:30am - 9:30pm within every 30 min. The complete trip costs you somewhere around Rs. 800.
